New Directions In Life

In life, you can change direction, change your clothes, changes partners, and even change your mind. But changing who you are is often next to impossible. Your past will follow you. In todays fast paced world of social networking, social media, news papers, cell phones and traffic cams, weather cams, and who knows what else, there is just no where to run or no where to hide. The real you is still there no matter what you do, or where you go. A new start is a great idea, and sometimes its something you may need. But all too many people find out that when they get to where they think they want to be, the grass wasn’t as green as they had hoped it would be. Life remains the same. You have the same struggles, same bills, same children, same desires, nothing seems to have changed but your location, and a lot less friends. But, I’m not knocking change of scenery, or even a new place to live, I’m just wondering is it really worth it.

So, you can cross those bridges in either direction. If you are a hard worker, determined to make it work you just may succeed, and I hope you do. I can promise you that it can be done, but I can’t promise you that you will succeed. Leaving your family, and friends behind is a big decision, especially those that really love you, and care about you! I’m rambling on here, talking to the wind. So, if you are reading this and any of it applies to you, then I sincerely hope you are hearing me loud and clear. Think long and hard, have your ducks in a row, and be prepared. I hope it works for you! The good thing is, you can always come back home if it doesn’t. I’m sure you will be welcomed home with open loving arms!

Sunsets

Sunset001

I’ve been chasing sunsets for over forty years and I am still amazed by them. Living in south central Louisiana there are so many trees (and that’s a good thing) that it can be hard to a good shot, so it takes a little planning and forethought to be in the right place at the right time.

Well, I’ve found another way to get up above the trees and get some great sunset and sunrise photos. Still, timing is everything and if you aren’t on your game so-to-speak, you can still miss some great photos. This particular photo was taken while flying my Phantom 2 over Lake Concordia, and is actually an outtake from a video. So I had many frames to choose from to get the shot I wanted. I hope you like it.

My Dixie

Dixie Marie, Doodles

My Dixie, forever in my heart.

DSC_0040

Dixie Marie, she came to me just a ball of fur, full of life, small enough almost to hold in one hand. Right away I knew that she was special. We bonded immediately, a bond that has lasted close to fourteen years. I lost her May 3rd, 2014, probably the saddest day I can remember in a long time.

My home has a void, like the air has been sucked right out of it. The whole family loved her, but she was mine and I miss her tremendously! She may be gone, but her presence is still felt. She slept on the floor by my side of the bed, and I was accustom to stepping over her when I got up in the mornings. She’s not there to greet me when I come home anymore, or to place her chin on my knee when I’m eating, and waiting for a handout. I won’t hear her footsteps on the floor anymore, or her special bark, but I know she’s not suffering. She gave everything a dog has to give, and gave it well.

She’s buried on the hill overlooking the lake, a spot I know she would have loved. I hope she’s running in greed fields, or lying in the sun soaking up some rays, she deserves the best, she earned it. Dixie lived a long life, she was a great gift. Thank you Lord for the time we had together.

Rest in peace my Dixie Darlin!

Trees

_DSC1005

When you live on a lake, and have many trees in your back yard it seems that it is inevitable that some limbs will fall. This is the second one to fall in about a month. Strong thunderstorms with gusting winds are doing a number on my trees. Luckily, so far my home has been spared, thank God! It looks like I’ll be putting that new chain saw to use this coming weekend. This storm came up suddenly. I had just got home, the sun was shining and the sky was blue, the next thing I know, it got dark, the wind started blowing, hail was hitting the house and I heard the limb fall. I looked outside and there it was, complete with bird nest and all. There is a small table and chairs set right under the limb and believe it or not, they don’t appear to have any damage.

I feel like I’m rolling the dice living here, and sooner or later the laws of average may just catch up with us. But, we will continue to live here as long as the Lord allows. The lake continues to rise with all of this rain, and it is already over part of my sea wall. Hopefully, the levee will hold another year. That’s the update, God Bless and have a great day!

Opportunity

I once knew a man who carried these small round wooden discs in one of the pockets of his overalls, and printed on the discs were the words “A-Round-To-It”, and every time someone he knew would say “if I ever get around to it I’ll do such and such etc”. At this point he would reach into his pocket and pull out one of those little discs and hand it to whom every he was speaking to and tell them, here is your “A-Round-to-It” now you don’t have to put it off any longer!

Anyway, I had an opportunity to do a ride-along with a Wildlife & Fisheries Agent last weekend, and although it was a pretty cool day, it was well worth the trip. As we were about to enter the Mississippi River from Old River, we spotted this Bald Eagle in the top of a very tall tree. Even from a distance I could tell he was very large. Unfortunately, we were in a moving boat which does not work well with a 300mm telephoto lens. Regardless, I took a couple of photos of the eagle anyway. While it’s not the best shot it was still exciting for me. The eagle flew off before I could get any other shots. I plan on returning to that area again soon and hope the eagle is still in the area when I do. Have a great day!

Three-Thirty A M

Just enjoying the quietness, and my first cup of coffee. Yea, I know, who cares right. Have new photos to post, hopefully I’ll get around to posting one or two today. I have taken steps to get into some flight photography, looking forward to that in the near future. I’ll be including those photos and videos on my blog. Ok, that’s all for now, see ya!

ebilbo1.com

Ok, it’s official now, I’ve purchased my domain name. So, more updates will be forthcoming. Hopefully said updates will make this blog site more attractive and easier to navigate. But that remains to be seen. I will start working on that right away, and maybe before this weekend is over I’ll have it at a reasonable starting point. Hey, I am more than willing to accept any help anyone out there has to offer. Ok, have to throw in photo, after all that’s mainly why I’m here. Have a great weekend!

Long Weekend……..at Work

Three 12’s are tough, getting up at 3am three days in a row ain’t no fun! But hey, gotta pay for those toys. Up side, next weekend I’m off! Plus, this weekend I get to take pictures of the sunrise. I was able to get a couple of shots this morning, I’ll post one later. It can be challenging to get a good photo of the sunrise sometime because there are trees Everywhere here. But I continue to maneuver around until I find a suitable spot, and snap away.

Oops!

It appears that I have clicked something (or unchecked) that caused my photo gallery to quit posting, the worse part is that up to now I have been unable to fix the problem. So, please bare with me and I’ll figure it out as soon as possible. Thanks.

Another New Face

Still working on this blog, so please bare with me. This will be the permanent theme, but I will continue to customize the page(s) until I am satisfied with the look. Anyone with suggestions are welcome to offer them. Thanks.
